Installing decals

How to put on a decal.

First, take the decal and find the location that you will be putting it. Clean the area as good as possible, any little pieces of lint or dirt will cause a bubble or impression in the decal. Those are BAD. So get it as clean as possible.

Try to keep the area as clean as possible and avoid waiting to put the decal on once you have cleaned the surface. If at all possible do not use amonia based products these dry out the glue that holds the decals in place.

Second, you want to take the decal and begin pulling the transfer tape away from the backing. Do this carefully as some transfer tapes are not as sticky as others & some vinyl isn't as sticky as others too. The tempreture can effect this as well. You don't want to peel the transfer tape and leave the decal on the backing.

If this does happen you can try to lay the transfer tape back down and squeegee the tape back onto the decal and then try to assist the decal off the backing as you pull the transfer tape off again. Try not to use your fingers because oils and dirt particles can accumulate on the under side of the decal. That is also BAD.Once you have the decal off the backing it should look like the picture below.

Now,you are done with the backing so you can throw that part away, if you like.

Okay, you have the decal and the transfer tape ready to go, you can put your decal on starting from the middle and working your way to the outside edges. On smaller decals this is very simple and easy.

Body graphics and larger decals may require an additional person's help. You will want to apply the middle of the decal first and work your way to the outside edges to help keep unwanted air pockets from appearing.

When applying decal (especially larger ones) you may want to use an application fluid

*Application Fluid = a fluid that is sprayed down before applying the decal so that you can move and situate the decal to get perfect placement and alignment.

If you don't have application fluid (which most people don't) you can use a drop of dish soap in a spray bottle of water. I have herd mixed feelings about that but if you don't have or want to purchase application fluid, this is the next best thing (If you are interested in purchasing application fuid, I have put a link to an ebay store that sells it. It is called Rapid Tac & Rapid Tac II).

Use a squeegee to push any air pockets out of your decal. On larger decals (like windshield decals) you may want to use the squeegee as you are going along to help keep air pockets from forming. It usually helps when you have a second pair of hands to help keep the decal off the windshield until you want it there. With most vinyl if you stick it on, it will not move again unless you are using application fluid. Which means if you put it where you don't want it, then you might end up buying another decal so careful is GOOD.

Once you have your decal in place you can use the squeegee to smooth out any air pockets or bubbles that appear. Sometimes you get small air pockets even though you cleaned and cleaned. You can go back later (after you are finished) and pop them with a needle. In some instances a small bubble may appear but after a week or so in sunlight it may disappear, so don't feel that you have to buy another decal as it may end up working itself out. If you do have to pop a bubble try to press the bubble straight down, so you don't stretch the vinyl or make a wrinkle.

Now that all the bubbles are out and you have the decal where you want it. You can start peeling the transfer tape off. Start from an outside edge peeling at a 45 degree angle (yes, I know I didn't pull at 45 degrees in the picture but I was holding the camera and trying to focus so please bare with me).

Once the tranfer tape is off, you now have your new decal in place and perfect.

I hope that helps and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you and please stop by our ebay store as we are always happy to see new people.
