When installing the V1 one has to take into consideration the following:
- Location - Radars are detected better when you mount the V1 high and as far from the dash board as you can. This is not true if you want to achieve best location for laser guns, but because the chances that laser detection will save you are less than the chances radar detection will save you we tend to favor radar detection and mount the unit high.
Mount the V1 straight and level and not as you can see in this picture.
Don't mount it on the dash board as you see in this picture: - Power connection - It is very important to connect the V1 to a stable power pick-up, failure in doing so will cause the unit to false laser alert when the voltage falls down from it's nominal value. The preferred way is to use the hard wire part and connect the V1 directly to the fuse box, to avoid sharing power with high power customers like lights and horn. If possible you can connect the direct wire kit to the CD power line.
- Programming - Maybe the most important value of your V1 is in the programming, make sure you know what you are up against regarding radar guns and disable X,K if possible, by that you will get much less false radar alerts. If you are in EU make sure you program it to u and not U and enjoy the best range of detection for the Multanovas F6.
- Windscreen - If you own a French or some of the high class German cars that have heat reflective glass, be aware that you will have very poor radar reception because of metal particles that are in the glass, forming a kind of a Faradays cage. The only thing you can do is get a remote version of the V1 and mount it in the bumper. (look for in ebay).
- Display - The V1 comes with the traditional red display, for better display consider upgrade to the multi color remote display units that are sold separately in ebay.
Your Valentine 1 is the ultimate radar detector, use it smart and get much more.
