How easy is it to install?
This guide is intended to briefly show you the steps needed to install a Petsafe Underground Fence successfully. When you purchase a Petsafe Underground Fence Kit, it comes with a full installation manual and Installation CD.
The Petsafe containment system can be easily installed in as little as a few hours saving hundreds of dollars over the cost of installing a conventional fence.
- No need for professional installation, this fence has been designed to be installed by the homeowner.
Not to mention that the Petsafe fence is invisible when buried under the ground.
Typically, it takes around four or five hours for the entire system to be installed.
Basic installation of a buried wire system consists of these simple steps:
Plug in the transmitter (indoors or in an enclosed area) Twist two pieces of wire together to create a pass-through zone for your dog (e.g. from the transmitter out to the yard's perimeter) Run the twisted wire out to your boundary edge Create a continuous loop of wire around the perimeter of your yard Connect each end of the loop back to the two twisted wires. Test the system. Either bury the wire by cutting a 3" deep trench with a flat spade or Lawn Edger, attach it to an existing fence or staple it to the ground with our 6 inch Staples. Install the white boundary flags as a visual reference for you and your dog. There are various methods for installing the wire, here are a few of the main ones.
- Shovel Method: Just push a shovel into the ground 2"-3" deep, move the handle toward you, and a tiny trench is formed.
- Lay the wire into the trench and remove the shovel.
- Stepping on the raised ground closes the area without a trace or affecting the grass
- Lawn Edger Method: An easier, quicker method is to cut a small trench using a lawn edger along the line you wish to follow. Then simply push the wire into the trench you have cut.
- Existing Fence Method: The wire can be attached to a fixed object such as an existing wooden fence or woven through the links of a chain link fence.
- Trencher Method: You can rent a trencher from you local DIY store for around $50.00. This is by far the fastest method and can cut your installation time down to 2 hours.
- Above Ground Method: Staple to the ground using our specially developed 6 inch galvanized staples.
You can bury your wire up to 12 inches deep to protect areas of very heavy traffic such as entrances to farm yards where livestock and tractor equipment may cross.
- Do you have a concrete driveway or path? You can run the wire under it through a PVC pipe or just lay it in the expansion joint and caulk it in. If you don't mind looking at it you can even run it through an old piece of hose pipe across the top of the drive or a culvert.
