I am hoping to clear-up some misconceptions concerning ruby-red colored, pieces of harvest pattern glassware that are appearing at auction.
In the late 1970's Indiana Glass Company produced a few pieces in their Harvest line, with ruby-red flashing. Among the pieces produced were a small cannister, a covered Candy Box/Spooner, an oblong covered candy box, a hen-on-nest, and a compote. These pieces are attractive, when found with the flashing intact, and make an interesting conversation piece in collections. They are not; however, rare or scarce in any sense of the words.
They are listed in the 1983 Indiana Glass catalog; but, no production data is available on them. These pieces were not very popular; because, the flashing had a tendency to flake-off, and scratched easily in normal cleaning. That explains why it's so difficult to find them with completely intact color coating. It appears that most of them were sprayed on plain, gold colored, glass pieces. No flashed cannisters were ever made in the medium, or large sizes.
