Sir,
Mangoes grown in India are the mangoes to be shared with the consumers of USA because they are only used to the mangoes shippied from S America and Mexico. The article I read, written by DR Savani dated May 17, 2006 regarding Mangoes grown in India and the varities of mangoes grown and the taste of them is so sweet that once the consumers gets the taste of Indian Mangoes they would never eat mangoes shipped from Other countries.
The king of Mango fruit is Himayat Pasand, which is a fruit to be cut and served only and the once a consumer tastes this fruit he would not try to eat any other Mango.Mangoes grown in Andhra Pradesh and surrroundings of Hyderabad are Himayat pasand ,Dassari,Benishan,Kesar and one more mango named Gova bunder which is a juicy variety. The mangoes listed above should be the Mangoes to be imported to USA .
Mango growers in Hyderabad , India should be helped By Governament Of India asking APEDA to introduce the growers to the Importers in USA. whocan interact with the farmers and if needed invite them to visit India and taste the fruits and to support Indian Farmers in exporting there fruits to USA.
Processing the fruits for export and packing them to export quality should be the support from APEDA. Presently In most of the stores a box contains 9 Mangoes, and are sold for $10.00 a box. Indian Mangoes are not be seen In the Markets or the Indian Stores.Indian store owners say Mangoes from India ar sold at $40.00 a box and the customers are not ready to spend high costs in getting a box off Mangoes From India.
To make Indian Mangoes more attractive price wise Govrnament of India should consider in giving some relaxation on shipping cost to fly Mangoes to USA.In India the consumers are buying imported fruits imported from China,Australia,USA.When we can import fruits from other countries why not Indian Mangoes to USA.This is serious matter for the farmers and APEDA to make Indian Mango popular in USA and I an sure we can do this if we all work for it.
Thanks
