The "If You Build It, They Will Come" philosophy sure doesn't cut it on the Internet anymore… Ever wonder how you can increase traffic to your eBay Store, About Me Page, or other items for sale? Finding Sales and Marketing Difficult at times? It doesn’t have to be time consuming, wasteful, nor expensive…. Believe it or not, Marketing can be fun!

Look no further than the Weird Stuff category on eBay. There are thousands of various buyers and sellers, browsing thru the weird stuff category looking for a good laugh, some entertainment, and marketing ideas. Got a funny unconventional idea that you think people would tell their friends about? Start working on it and proceed to use it to your advantage for cross-promoting and marketing your ‘real’ stuff! $20 may sound like a lot for doing one featured plus listing, but it really is pennies when you look at the big picture. For 7-10 days you can use a featured plus listing to showcase your idea, your humor or talent, while inviting tons of users to check out your other stuff. With the counters eBay provides you can really measure and see results.  If you could come up with a catchy title and gallery picture, you will get the looks.

It is essential to provide “Email a Friend”, “Check out my Other Items”, “About Me”, “Check out my Store” links within your weird item auction description to entice more looks. The simplest method of finding the link is by right clicking the link and proceeding to 'Copy The Shortcut' or 'Link Location'.   Once you have acquired the proper link, paste the entire URL you've recently copied into the example format below.  Simply replace "http://myOtherItems" with your exact URL, ensuring the quotes stay in place:

<a href="http://myOtherItems" target="_self">Click Here to ....</a>

Furthermore, there are 2 methods to approach selling in the Weird Category. If you think you have an idea that is a get rich quick scheme. 99% of the time you are wrong. Success is earned by its earnest efforts and people are on eBay ultimately to find good deals. Yea, once in a blue, 1% of the time you may have a winning idea and people will get a kick out of the auction and you could make a fast buck, but in the long run it might not be the best route for building your business and establishing trust.

As I run a legitimate online small business, my method of selling weird items is to generate traffic, ensure the winning bidder receives a bonus gift and is 100% satisfied with the transaction. It would be in your best interest to mention in your ad "Anything that comes with it is a Bonus Gift from Me to You", but only consider using this statement if you are serious about your online presence.

On that note, I firmly believe weird stuff should be a cost-effective “loss leader” for your other items. “LOSS LEADER”? An item that is sold below cost in an effort to stimulate other profitable sales. Draw your customers into your eBay store, invite them to add you to their favorite sellers list, where they are likely to buy other goods. Your reach is what you should focus on. If you can actually and realistically make a considerable income and fast buck off of weird stuff...all of the power to you.
