A major emerging trend in interior design is sensuality: incorporating elements that engage all the senses. When designing or renovating a room, take into consideration how ALL your senses will react to your design.

Sense of Sight:

This sense is the most obvious sense when decorating, and people usually pay the most attention to this one when designing a room. It's obviously important that the design of the room be pleasing to the eyes!

Sense of Hearing:

One important and often overlooked aspect of designing a room is its acoustics. Since you will be living your life in this room, it's important to take acoustics into consideration. How will your music sound in the room? Your conversations with your loved ones? Ideally a well-planned room will incorporate these elements; carefully planned combinations of textiles and hard surfaces can make a tremendous difference in the way sounds are heard in a room. This is especially important if you live in a noisy area. Even if you decide not to soundproof your home, your choice of draperiestextiles , floor coverings and other furnishings can help isolate you from unwanted outside noise.

Sense of Touch:

When planning a room, this is an important sense to take into consideration. Will you be walking barefoot on scratchy floor coverings? Perhaps a soft, luxurious rug would be a better choice. Is the couch touchable enough that you can snuggle up on it and fall asleep? Add plenty of soft surfaces to compensate for hard surfaces: fluffy cushions and sumptuous throws can become welcome additions to hard chairs or benches . It is important to make sure that you and your loved ones will be comfortable in your home.

Sense of Smell:

Fresh flowers delight the senses. A fragrant bouquet is one of the simplest ways to add beauty and sensuality to your home. But also don't forget to add displays of scented candles or potpourri. These unique details add personality to your home and help to make it cozy and inviting.

Sense of Taste:

Why not incorporate taste into your décor as well, by choosing to add a well-placed bowl of luscious fruit, which will please both the eyes and the taste buds. You could also choose to display a gorgeous dish full of candies or mints. The results will be both beautiful and delicious!
