Identifying Your Sewing Machine Attachments

The first step to using your sewing machine attachments is actually identifying them. What are they and what can they do for you? They are tools of your sewing and each one is meant to make something easier for you. These new attachments are from my Babylock. I normally devote it to all my embroidery, but have pulled them out to use. Have you tried the rolled hemmer, using a blind stitch and created some lovely scallops? Try it. Place your rolled hemmer on your sewing machine, and practice setting the blind hem stitch until it just catches part of your fabric edge.

There are some new attachments that go by the same name and look just a tad bit different. The adjustable blind stitch hemmer is one of those. I have seen quite a few variations, yet they all work the same. Whether you have a vintage machine or use a newer one, the attachments work virtually the same. Playing around with all the lovely sewing attachments was the best part of writing my new book, The Sewing Machine Attachment Handbook, published by Krause publishing.

Left to right - Blind stitch foot, zigzag, and adjustable blind hem foot.

Left to right -  Zipper foot, button sew on foot, 3 cording foot, and hemmer foot (rolled hemmer)

Left to right - embroidery foot, open toe free motion, and transparent embroidery foot (all will do embroidery and all will do free-motion quilting on your machines).

So, first identify your foot. Next, learn what it does and practice. Having trouble identifying them? There are many groups devoted to sewing on the internet or you can always email me and I will be glad to help. Attachments are what I love!

No matter what type of machine you have, just have fun!
Charlene
