Right after the RG1550, which wasn't a big hit. In 2003, Ibanez launched the RG2550EX. People had a lot of expectation on this newer model of the classic RG550, and Ibanez realized that. People wanted a better version of the legendary RG550, but Ibanez may have over done it a bit. The RG2550EX equipped with the new designed DiMarzio pickups (instead of the triditional V7 S1 V8), new design Pro Edge tremolo system which only available in high-end Ibanez guitars, (found in the new 7V, and prestige range).
