PLEASE leave feedback  at  bottom  if this was helpfull it only requires  a check mark by the yes or no

CITES has developed identification guides  that are made avaiable to all participating countries, as well as  the general public. These identification guides  provide regulatory authorities  with useful information  when inspecting wild life products. You may review the guidelines online at

cites org eng resources publications shml   since I  cannot put  any wed addresses other than E bay I have had to leave out the dots and black slashes but you may contact me for information

it also provides an identification tool  identification guide  for ivory and ivory substitutes  which  includes details on mammal teeth products. it can be down loaded from  the above link  it is  the 5 th item  on list of publications

In addition to these identification tools  a physical inspection may be conducted if required  by a professional .

We  all have been fooled and many dealers take the word of the previous owner. Although the above 38 page down load is  somewhat confusing you will lear that some other ivory like products are also endangered and  valuable. You can also see how the authorities tell the difference in the Extinct mammoth  and the modern  Elephant., as well as HIPPOS, WALRUS, BOAR, and THE SPERM WHALE . Although it may be somewhat confusing at first it gives you a starting point  ond pictures so you know what questions  to ask  and what differences  to look for.Because most purchases are over the  internet  you only  view photos . WHEN you buy and it is not  real usually  the dealer will work with you and in most cases is happy  to learn  something new . They welcome the added knowledge .THERE is safety in KNOWLEDGE . sometimes a listing says Ivory but it does not always mean the Real Item . Read closely I have seen Ivory  purses ,Ivory boots, Ivory sheets, and the ever Famous FAUX IVORY or  the Ivory LIKE Item . THEN THERE IS THE BONE IVORY, bone is bone it may have the color of ivory but not the texture.

THERE are many more examples  and the 38 page download covers most all of  them also note there seem to be missing or blank pages they are not it is a page break between chapters  the entire booklet is  there .

If you have any Questions please feel free to email me  or if you cannot find the website let me know I will give you the address.
