Art nouveau Majolica Dust Pressed Tiles.
Clay pressed, method first patented by Richard Prosser in 1840. Most of them made in England, Germany, Belgium and France.
Preparing the bed
Remove existent mortar from wall where tiles will be applied. Brush and soaked bricks with clear water.
Tiles to be applied must be soaked wet during 15 minutes in clear water.
Bonding
Use a mortar rich in calcium - avoid synthetic (as will be imposible to replace the tile without braking in case you wish)
Rich calcium mortars will be easy to remove in case you will need, but will be strong enough to get your tile fixed.
Just care this mortar is not placed over iron otherwise will attack it.
If traditional mortar rich in portland (deck mud ) The slump here (abrahams cone) can be higher as mix water / cement relation is not as important as a better absorption by tiles. What we mean a high resistance is not searched but a strong cramping.
Placing the tiles
Start from the most visible angle in the room to the edges. Place all rows except the last one (this later will be placed after flooring).
Finally a unsanded grout is needed and for that you can request for the appropriate one at your local shops.
