Over the years we have been lucky to meet a lot of celebrities. However, we noticed that many people do not understand how to act around a celebrity and it often resulted in discomfort for everyone. We hope this short and simple guide will help you have a better experience when you next meet your favorite celebrity.

Locate them - this can be the most difficult part and we can't tell you all the secrets to locating the stars. It certainly helps to be in NY or LA on a regular basis. In LA just going to Manns Chinese theater will usually net you a few autographs. Search online for book signings and the like. Just be creative and see what happens.

Timing is key - If you see your favorite celebrity, remember that there are certain times when you should not approach them. It is never ok to bother a celebrity while they are eating. You will need to wait until they leave the restaurant to approach them. It is also never ok to approach them while they are conducting business. Remember to always be very respectful.

Be respectful - Always address them with the proper title Sir, Mr., Ms. or Mrs. unless they tell you differently. Additionally, never expect to get more than one item signed per person. They may allow more than one item, but always wait until everyone else has had their items signed before asking. Please don't assume every celebrity will sign every time. Remember, they are busy and are never obligated to do anything for you. If they decline your request, remember to say thanks and move on with a smile.

Flatter them- what star does not want to hear about how much you love their work. Don't overdue it. Just be honest. They love it!

Be Cool - It's easy to get very excited when you meet your favorite celebrity but they are much more willing to stop and sign or take a photo with you if they are in a calm environment. Try to keep from getting all excited.

Ink and paper - Make sure you have a reliable and working pen with you. Stay away from paint pens as they often don't work. Most everyone prefers sharpies. If the pen does not work the celebrity will not hang around and wait for you to get one that does work. You will also need something for them to sign. I always travel with some blank index cards. That way when I am in LA and run into someone, I have something for them to sign.

Thank them - Lastly, don't forget to thank them for their time.
