IMATE K - JAM

This is quite possibly the worst smart phone on the market. This phone is offered in the US by Cincinnati Bell in the Cincinnati/Dayton/Northern Kentucky area.

Although the phone has wifi and packs a lot of features, there are too many glitches associated with the firmware.

One of the issues with this phone is at first this device is good in many aspects. But all that goes to the trash if you just soft reset this device once. After a single soft reset whatever you open thinks for 5mins and then starts. But this problem vanishes if you perform a hard reset(restore factory settings) once. After this hard reset, it works really fast and good. But if you perform a soft reset again, then you are fired. The only way to get the device back to normal is by performing a hard reset.  Now when I purchased mine It looked the part in the store and the reviews seemed ok too  but I immediately discovered how clumsy the user interface was when I answered my first call. Things got progressively worse from there. The slide out keyboard looks like a great idea but it's a nightmare in practice compared to the Tre650 - waiting for the screen to change to landscape mode and back again is excruciating. The touchscreen is difficult to use without the stylus (unlike the Treo650) and no thought seems to have been put into the location and function of the hardware keys.I like the realtime Activesync and wish the Treo650 could do this but on every other count the I-mate K-JAM loses hands down. The windows platform is improving but it still has a way to go - and it can't possibly make up for a poorly designed hardware platform. On top of the slow firmware, customer service from I-mate is horrible. I had an issue with mine where it stopped working. I-mate does not have a phone number or address listed on their website. You have to use an online live help chat . The person treated me like I was bothering him  I ended up having to mail it to I-mate for service. Now a lot of Phone companies back these up. If you get one "BUY THE INSURANCE". A friend of mine purchased a K-Jam unlocked phone from I-Mate. He's had several problems with it. He told me the tech support is polite but very shallow. Hardware problems are going to happen period. Their only support center on the east coast is so frustrated in their dealings with I-Mate that they said they are quitting them. With repair cost he has over $1000.00 in this PDA phone and it is only 14 months old. His complaints to I-Mate keep getting forwarded to the Concerned Department. He has never received an answer to his inquiries as to who the Concerned Department is , and they have not responded to over a dozen inquiries he's made over the past two months.   So to sum it all up , This is quite possibly the worst smart phone on the market.  Shop Elsewhere.  Hope This Helps
