If you own and operate, restoring or thinking of buying an International Harvester Farmall letter series tractor- H, HV or M, MV, MD, MDV owning the appropriate owner's manuals is an absolute must!!!!
Sadly, over years of use, neglect and abuse, the lighting systems were the first to be stripped from the tractor. As a kid, I distictly remember a guy yanking all the wires and lights from a Super H my grandfather owned, dismissing them "as junk" and throwing them in the trash. Why the destruction of one of the best accessories Farmall ever offered? Shear stupidity and a lack of understanding of how the lights fit into the electrical system.
One of the best manuals to own if your tractor has or had lights is the Farmall Starting and Lighting Attachments and "No-Battery" Generator-Type Lighting Attachments manual.
This manual covers Delco-Remy attachments for lighting and starting and installation. It has general wiring instructions, and operation and maintenance of the electrical attachments. (Ever wonder what the L-H-D-B means on the light switch under the steering wheel means? This manual explains that and more.)
Both 6 and 12 volt systems are covered, where applicable.
This in-depth manual also covers the operation and maintenance of Bosch No-Battery Type electrical attachments.
Both Delco and Bosch systems have detailed and easy to follow wiring diagrams, along with pages of part numbers.
Exploded views are well drawn, and will help you understand how your Farmall should have been set up originally, aiding in your restoration work. Covered are the head lamp support and attaching parts, head or rear lamps, light switch, battery box, and generators with attaching parts.
These 72 page manuals are informative, well written and easy to follow. If you are putting together one of these IH classics, this manual is invaluable!!!!!
