So many people buy my rosaries because they are different than the usual. They have beads in the shapes of fish to remind people that Jesus entrusted his apostles to be "fishers of men.", or they have wine urns to remind people of Jesus' first miracle at the wedding of Canna as just a few examples.
But these different beads, while inspiring, are not enough to keep the meditations and prayers going.
So what do you do when you are unlike the vast majority who can walk the beach, or use their exercise walker, while reciting the rosary? What if praying the rosary drags for you, no matter how much you want to practice this devotion?
Thankfully, there are many solutions to this problem.
First, if you would like to combine physical activity like walking with the recitation of your rosary, there are many recordings of the rosary both on DVD and VHS available from EWTN and FamilyLand which can also be found on Amazon and Ebay. With these recordings, you can actually pray the rosary with the host leading. You will be treated to inspirational pictures from the Vatican and private collections, while in other recordings, you will view the Holy Land and the places our Lord actually walked.
On CD and audio tape, you can say the rosary with such notaries as Father Peyton, Mother Angelica or Pope John Paul II leading you. In a portable CD player cassette tape player, you can listen and pray as you vacuum, do the dishes or many other chores and activites.
But if you want to be relaxed, and meditative, my suggestion is to obtain a little blue and white hard covered book called the "Scriptural Rosary." My mother gave me my copy many years ago, and I can't exaggerate how much I've used this book. It's small size makes it easy to to keep in a coffee table drawer, and in pocket or purse for travel. It's hard cover makes it extremely durable. It is a bit pricy, but worth every penny in my opinion.
This book takes the three mysteries of the Rosary; Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious, and gives Bible verses for each Hail Mary bead. Can't remember how to start a rosary - is it with an Our Father or a Glory Be? This book leads you with no pressure.
Soon, you will be looking up the rest of the verse in you own Bible, making you more familiar with everything the rosary is about.
As an added bonus, after using this book for a while, you will be able to say the rosary in the conventional way, but the relative scriptures will come to mind, making every recitation of the rosary more meaningful.
