Back about 3 years ago I purchased this 1968 Topps # 177 Nolan Ryan Rookie card graded FGS-8 Near MINT for $399 plus shipping (total $405). Realizing that FGS was a questionable card grader I broke it open and sent it to BECKETT, April 18, 2005.
Not only was it not worthy of a grade of 8 - Near Mint, Beckett's review indicated "Questionable Authenticity".
Two things that really got under my skin.........
1. My inexperience cost me $405. That's my bad !
2. EBAY made a profit off of it.
I would like to Ebay come up with an extended time frame for baseball cards to be returned. For instance reputable grading card companies can not turn a card around in less then 30 days or more, with a reasonable fee.
By the way I also got ripped off on a 1964 Topps Mickey Mantle and a 1968 Topps Mickey Mantle that were "Shaved". AND again Ebay made a profit off these criminal acks.
I did track down FGS's headquarters. It turned out to be a California residence. This women answered the phone and became conserned (not for me) when I gave her the details. I never did get a call back from anyone that represents FGS.
Oh well...........they say buyer beware, but when it comes to cards, only two parties profit in a scam..........EBAY and the criminal.
