I have the same machine, (w/ 42" deck) 3 years old, cuts approx. 2 acres grass per week and plows snow in the winter ( 48" blade & chains)  aside from regular maintanance - oil, filters, grease, - I have only had to replace the 2 1/2 year old battery!!   No complaint's from me.
