It's NOT your Fault if the clothes don't fit !
No my waist isn't 24", and my hips aren't 36" NOR do my arms grow in length proportionately to clothing size!
Considering over 50% of the North American population is plus sized - what gives?
How many size '0's do they actually sell?
Don't blame yourself if the plus size clothes you are trying on don't fit - it's the shape of the clothing which doesn't fit you! and often due to poor, inconsiderate design.
- I am plus sized and too many times I have tried on an article of clothing only to find that the manufacturer has simply taken a size 12 and enlarged it - to a 1X or 2X - now the shoulders are down by my elbows, the short sleeves are to my wrists and I look like a truck driver. No consideration for our shape has gone into the design - and yet they charge more money than for "regular" sized items.
- There's nothing better for our sense of well being and our outlook on the world than having a closet with clothing which fits, and makes us look the best we can (without that dreaded try 50 items on and end up in the first outfit we tried on but tired and unhappy).
- Slowly, over time and with more than a few mistakes - I've learned to recognize a good cut, a figure flattering design in plus size clothing which I've been buying and selling in my eBay web store "Ocean Interiors by mermaid142"; use this link to Ocean Interiors by mermaid142 for quality plus size cothing
- For those of us who have no waist - princess seams are the answer - they create the look of an hour glass shape regardless, which makes us feel curvaceous and that gives us self confidence. Guess what - we look great with self confidence.
- There was a time when we all wore over sized tunics - made us feel comfortable because our hips were covered, so was our stomach and possibly the thighs - those parts we disliked the most - yes they were hidden but we managed to look like a very large no shaped person with really short legs. The opposite of what we should be doing!
- Long legs, short torso, shoulders which fit us perfectly, and some Princess seaming - now we're talking. I know it takes a while and we feel like we're wearing a bathing suit we feel so exposed but after a ton of compliments - you'll get used to it.
- Proportion matters, design matters, fit really matters - don't settle for less! More often than not quality clothing fits better than less expensive, and the sizing is more consistent so when you buy more than one from the same company - they both will fit. Especially important for those of us who shop over the internet and can't try everything on. Things which are clunky like shoes and purses make us look clunky, Big sloppy sweaters - you guessed it - makes us look sloppy. Not to say that you can forget proportion - you bag or jewelry can't be teensy tiny or you'll look like you've stolen you accessories from Barbie, and don't wear clothing which is too tight or you'll look like a sausage - and way heavier.
- A seamstress should be your best friend. You should consider her just part of the cost of the garment. Buy the item of clothing to fit your largest part, your problem area - it is so much easier to take something in and less expensive. Make sure the shoulder seams sit at our shoulder, and for heavens sake throw out those shoulder pads unless they are very tiny - we don't need broader looking shoulders. All too often the sleeves are both way too long and too wide - have the seamstress take them up and in - all that extra fabric fills in the gap where your waist should be making you look much heavier - how simple, take in sleeves, loose pounds!
Good design, great fit, good quality, natural fabrics - worth every penny!
