New Hummel enthusiasts can gain tremendous insight into the world of Hummels by reading Robert L. Miller. Serious collectors know and respect his authenticity as a noted expert of the works of Maria Innocentia Hummel. I have loved and collected these gems for 48 years and I still refer to Robert Miller's M.I.Hummel guide . Iin spite of my years collecting , I recently saw a fake that was so close to the real thing that I would never had identified it as such without Mr. Miller's guide. Unfortunately the buyer was not as fortunate.
Buyers should know the various identifying marks from the first Crown mark in1935 to the current Goebel Bee. The MI Hummel identification as well as the numerical listing are all part of a vast fully authorized and documented collection. Many serious collectors are very interested in the early marks , sizes and unusual colorings for their collections.
If a pretty figurine at a low price is your objective that is one thing , but if you are truly looking for a first class collection, do your research before you purchase. Be armed and ready for tag sales or estate sales. Carry your book with you.
Most of all, enjoy these beauties.
