How To Use, Buy and Install a Bidet Toilet Seat

1. Buy a brand name like Bio Bidet or Brondell.

These companies have a long track record and solid warranties on their bidets.  You don't want to buy an off brand that may leak and cause serious water damage because their plumbing fittings are cheaply and poorly made.

2. Have a professional plumber install it for you.  The $100 to $150 they will charge you is well worth the peace of mind that nothing will leak.

3. Consider what features are really important to you.

a. Having a bidet with a "built-in water tank and heater" will give you the advantage of instant warm water however you will need a GFI electrical outlet within 4 feet of the toilet, if you don't then you will have to have an electrician put one in for you. Consider the Bio Bidet BB-500 or the Brondell Swash 400

b. Having a bidet with "no" built-in water tank and heater will run cold until the hot water line flushes out the cold water.  This flushing out process could take up to a minute depending on how long the water line is to your hot water heater.  If a cold water wash is ok with you during this short warm-up time then consider the Bio Bidet i-3000.  The advantage, you don't need a GFI outlet but you will need to hook-up to a hot water line with-in 4 feet of the toilet.

c. Do you want a heated seat?  This is a good feature for cold climate areas but you will have to have a GFI outlet within 4 feet of the toilet.  Most bidets with the heated seat feature also will have the heated water tank feature.

d. Do I need a remote control?  This is a real luxury feature and is very useful for anyone who is physically challenged as the remote control can be mounted on the wall for easy access and viewing.  The remote has all the controls on it to operate the bidet.  Consider the Brondell Swash 700 or the Bio Bidet BB-1000.  These top of the line models have all the bells and whistles you could ever want in a bidet.

e. One or two piece toilets?  You will need to know if your toilet is a solid, seamless one piece toilet or is obviously put together using two pieces (tank mounted to bowl).  The Bio Bidet line only works with two piece toilets, the Brondell line works with either one or two piece toilets.

f. Elongated or Round toilet seat?  Read the info carefully regarding the model you like best.  The description will tell you if you need to specify an elongated or round bidet seat model.  Elongated (oval) is usually 2 inches longer from front to back.  Round is just that round, usually 11 inches in circumference.

4. What is the least expensive but reliable brand name bidet toilet seat available on the market?

a. That would be the Bio Bidet i-3000 for under $200.  Extremely dependable but has no electrical features.  A hot water line must be within 4 feet of the toilet.  Fits only 2 piece toilets.

5. What is the least expensive but reliable brand name bidet with features like a heated water tank and heated seat for a two piece toilet?

a. That would be the Bio Bidet BB-500 for under $350.

6. What is the least expensive but reliable brand name bidet with features like a heated water tank and heated seat for a one piece toilet?

a. That would be the Brondell Swash 400 for under $400.

7. What bidet toilet seat would be considered the Lexus, the top of the line, remote control and all?

a. That would be the Brondell Swash 700 for under $700.

8. How do I use a bidet toilet seat?

a. Nothing could be easier.  The controls for water temperature and pressure are simple to use.  And the controls for any different jet wash wands are also simple to use and self explanatory.  Cleaning is also a snap, just wipe the bidet with a damp cloth or tissue.  The jets in most bidets are self-cleaning.

b. One great feature of a bidet is you won't be using very much toilet paper anymore.  This helps prevent the inflammation of any tender areas.  The hygenic benefits of a bidet wash are wonderful.

9. How do I install a bidet toilet seat?

a. I recommend using a professional plumber.  Unless you are a really experienced Do It Yourselfer it's worth the money to hire a plumber.  Leaks and floods in your home are no fun at all.
