How to Understand a anglers lingo.

Well to understand a angler and what he talking about is a task

it may take years of fishing. Or getting him on good day before he gets drunk.Just joking but it does help.

Its a language created by anglers for anglers so they dont get bored saying i got another of the same fish on. small fish, big fish,BIGGER FISH!!
 

Heres a few terms that are not known to most but known to alot of dedicated anglers.

The TERM "Hardwater" means Ice fishing so next time your going Say Well i Cant wait to get on the hardwater.

means to most anglers you like ice fishing. Or it could also me you like freezing your butt off in the extreme cold.

Slang names for Northern pike below

Slueshark, or Snake,Jack,pike,slimers,slapjack,Jack fish,Water wolf,Freshwater shark,river wolf,

"HAMMER HANDLES" MEANS a  SMALL PIKE.

I EVEN HEARD A FEW GUYS CALL EM F!#$%$#@@#$$$% dirty snakes after getting bit by the rows of teeth when removing a hook.

Slang names for Walleye below

GREENBACK,GREENBACKS,White eyes,Ice eyes,picks,Pickeys,pickerel,pRICKERELS,Sauger,silver eyes,sauger...

BUT THE REALLY Big Walleyes are Called "HAWGS"! AND WHEN YOU CATCH ONE YOU WILL SAY IT too Look AT THAT HAWG!!

I know a sauger is not a walleye but they sure look alike minus the white spot on the tail a some different coloration

Slang Names for Perch

Baitthiefs,spineys,humpys,perch,yellowbaCKS,

perch jacks so i been told from some one in the usa

Big PERCH aree Called Jumbos or humpbacks

Slang names for Outboard motors and trolling motors

Kicker,WaterHorsey,Last but not least A  "PEICE OF JUNK" OR "SWIne!"

SWINE!! IS A COMMON TERM FOR OUTBOARD MOTOR when breakING down on you out on the lake with no tools to fix it of course.

My favorite i heard is from a old guy who loved fishing rainbows he called them "jumpers"!

And last but not least The most commonly known term used all the time buy anglers

The "Snag" 

When you get a snag you can spice it up a lil and say to your fishing pal when hes see the bow in your fishing
