VIOLIN TUNING
To tune the violin it is recommended that you have either a pitch pipe or piano to be able to get the desired pitch. The string pitches from the largest to the smallest are G, D, A, and E.
The G is the largest string, and should be tuned to the G just below middle C on a piano.
The D is the second largest string, and should be tuned to the D just above middle C.
The A is the second smallest string, and should be tuned to the A just above middle C.
The E is the smallest string, and should be tuned to the 2nd E above middle C.
Match the pitch of each string as close as possible to the pitch on the pipe or piano using the large pegs at the top of the violin. It is rare to match the pitch using just the tuners at the top.
At the bottom end of the strings there should be 4 fine tuners, one for each string. These are used to be able to match the pitch exactly.
