Sometimes, people who want to make money like BanDai create virtual pets that almost copy the Tamagotchi. Often when buying on the internet, people say they are a Tamagotchi, when infact, they are not.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Ways to tell if a Tamagotchi is real:

  • Three buttons
  • The BanDai logo on the back of the Tamagotchi, and on the box somewhere.
  • Spelt "Tamagotchi Connection" or "Tamagotchi", not "tamogotchi", "tamagotch".
  • Tamagotchi should be able to connect with other real Tamagotchis. Fakes generally cannot connect with real Tamagotchi's

Ways to tell if a Tamagotchi is American:

  • Three buttons
  • No foreign languages on the box.
  • Spelt "Tamagotchi Connection", not "Tamagotchi Connexion" or "Tamagotch"
  • Metal keyring. (See photo below)

--------------------------------------------------------

Almost all of the real Tamagotchi's have this Tamagotchi Connection logo on the packaging and on the Tamagotchi itself.

-------------------------------------------------------

Here are some photos of imported and non-imported (American) Tamagotchi Connections:

^ These are imported or fake Tamagotchi Connections.^

^ These are American Tamagotchi's. They are non-imports. They are "real". ^

----------------------------------------------------------

Notice the keychain on this Tamagotchi (circled in red). This is the standard keychain that all American Tamagotchi's come with (except for Tamagotchi P1's). Imported Tamagotchi's do not have that keychain, except for Australian Tamagotchi's.

----------------------------------------------------------------

How to prevent purchasing a fake or imported Tamagotchi Connection:

Always ask the seller where he is located and where the Tamagotchi he is selling came from. People living in China, Singapore and Taiwan tend to sell non-American Tamagotchi's, so try to avoid them. If possible, ask for a picture of the exact Tamagotchi you will recieve, and compare it to photos of real Tamagotchi's.
