In the market, there are waterproof case design to house compact digital camera of DSLR camera to enable scuba diver or water sport  adventurer to take beautiful underwater pictures.

There are hard and soft waterproof cases.

The hard case is always designed for specify camera model, and able to withstand water depth of more than 15 metres (45ft).  It cost more than USD 150 for compact camera and more than USD 600 for DSLR camera and camcorder. There are waterproof case from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panisonic, etc.

If you are not a frequent diver and do not wanted to spend too much money for a waterproof case.  You may consider a soft case, that cost less than USD 50 for compact camera and camcorder, and less than USD 200 for DSLR camera.  There are quiet many soft waterproof case manufacturers in the market.

To prevent your existing camera being damage by inferior product.  Always look for waterproof case that have conducted proper waterproof test, and also search for reviews, gallery, photos taken underwater with the case.

We came across a superior waterproof product one year ago.  It was produced and designed in South Korea.  The DiCAPac waterproof case for compact digital camera that cost less than USD 35.00.  It guaranteed underwater performance for up to 16 ft (5m) depth.  With UV coated polycarbonate lens allow consumers to take clear pictures.   The transparent and flexible case provide convenient camera control, and it passed JIS (Japan Industrial Standard) waterproof test to heighest 8 grades standard.

Therer are also other product in the market.  But beware of the waterproof case design, country of production and whether proper waterproof test was conducted.

Conclusion, if you are a leisure user, just wanted to tke some nice underwater photo of your family, friends at swimming pool, sea side, during your fishing trip.  You may consider purchasing a soft waterproof case.  As for serious divers that wanted to take nice deep water pictures in a deoth of more than 30 ft (10m).  it will be best to buy  special designed hard case that able to withstand water pressure and with specially designed button for ease of camera control.

Photos courtcy provided by Hong Li, taken with digital camera in DiCAPac waterproof case in Muaritius.
