1) NEVER soak your Pfaltzgraff in a sink full of water! Remember this is POTTERY ! Most pieces are not glazed at the footing (which enables even temperature) and soaking the piece in a sink full of water will only make the footing absorb the water and weaken the piece! Wash each piece by hand or in the dishwasher (recommended).
2) NEVER use a scouring pad to clean your Pfaltzgraff! You'll only wear down the glazing (the finish) on the piece! Use teflon instead!
3) NEVER take a hot casserole or baker from the oven and place it on a cold counter! That can cause the item to crack or split upon contact and burn you as well! Try using a wooden bread board to put it down on (especially lasagna) as wood absorbs heat!
4) NEVER use bleach on your Pfaltzgraff! Bleach can be absorbed into the piece and change the clay properties over time. Use a non-abrasive cleaner (I have some in my store).
5) Never leave your Pfaltzgraff in extreme weather conditions! Leaving your piece in full sunlight during a hot summer day through a window or freezing it to make the item in or on it cool off faster will only cause crazing!
6) Never overstack your dishware! Piling too many dishes upon one another will cause hairline cracks! Hairline cracks are dangerous! These are virtually undetectable in poor lit areas and its only when its being used that the hairline crack can spread and split the item in hand once filled causing serious burns as well as one big mess to clean up afterwards! Try to limit your stack to maybe 6 or 8 pieces!
