I sell mostly baby clothing and started with only a cell phone camera. I then invested a little more money than i wanted for a camera and it was well worth it! I purchased a Kodak EasyShare DX7590 with a dock and printer. It takes excellent close ups. I then took most of my pictures on the floor or a bed. I wanted my  pictures to look even better so I came up with an idea. I went to the local Walmart and purchased a large cork board. I also purchased a few yards of material in different colors(black, white, blue, pink, etc) I then attached the material to the board and used straight pins or just layed the item on the board. About the same time I invested in Auction templates. Boy did i save money then! Not only did i save on each listing my sales doubled, then tripled! The better your pictures are and the more you have of an item- the more money you will make!
