1st on the bottom have a 1/2"
thick board (either many cardboards placed together alternating plys so it
won't bend or a piece of plywood cut out a few inches bigger than the bottom
cake.) Cover it with foil or shelf wrap. Place each cake layer on a
cardboard and ice them. Stack the bottom cake onto the base plate you made
, add 3/8"-1/2" dowel rod supports all cut off the height of the cake as
supports for the next stacked cake. If the cakes are small enough (6",8"
10") then the cardboard can be doubled up under the layers and the cakes can
be stacked without seperator plates between the layers. For larger layers I
add a seperator plate to support the weight of the cake (larger cakes can
weigh 50-80 pounds!) After they are all stacked with dowels in each layer
I would decorate them. When attaching the flowers ,if the icing is still
sticky you can attach them right to it, but if it has crusted a bit "butter
" the back of the flower with fresh icing before attaching to the cake.
