With the price of old vintage baseball cards skyrocketing, so to are the vast amount of counterfeiters out there. Collecting cards is a fun and profitable hobby, but you have to have a keen eye to be able to spot the fakes. Sites such as Amazon.com, and even Ebay.com make it simple for counterfeiters to sell their fake vintage cards to the lesser trained collector, and make huge profits while the buyer is hung out to dry.

Here are some simple, helpful tips for you collectors out there to be able to spot the valuable vintage cards that may not be real from your own house:

1) Find solid colored areas on the card, examine it closely (maybe under magnification) if the printing looks like fuzzy dots instead of lines or crossed lines, then it is fake.

2) Check the cards dimensions. Some fakes made by a photocopier use the incorrect print or image measurements which can create incorrect border sizes on the card.

3) Compare the card to ones that you know for a fact are real (graded, etc.). If there are obvious differences such as the text, color, font, or size, then theres a good chance the card is a fake.

4) Look for signs of the counterfeiter using scanner or bad photocopier. If it looks like there is hair or dust imprinted on the card, then chances are its a mark left by a dirty scanner or photocopier, and is probably fake.

5) Sometimes you can tell by smells. Old vintage cards have a distinct aged or musty smell to them. This is near impossible to fake.

6) Take the card to a local expert or card dealer if you have one. If your still unsure after using the above methods, an expert can probably give you the answers.

I very much hope this helps, if you have any questions please ask, I do my best to help customers. HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL!
