How to keep from getting copied movies and games would seem simple enough...I mean ebay keeps them from being available for sale. Not true
Ebay does try to keep you from buying copies by removing them, but sellers have found ways to work around the system.
Things to look for to keep from buying in the first place
1. sellers feedback-if there are even a few customers that say that dvds were copies, bootlegs, fakes etc. don't buy from seller. Some buyers will not be able to spot fakes so they will have good feedback.
2. Item is stated to be dvd only in a sleave-sometimes sellers say that is to save on shipping cost that is a lie. If it is in a sleave only odds are that is a fake.
3. Seller is from Phillippines or Malaysia- they may say that dvd is the official version for their country...but it is a copy 99.9% of the time
4. Lack of Pictures- I know everyone doesn't have a camera, but still a lack of a picture in addition to one of the other mentioned things should put up a red flag.
5. Official DVD set not released yet for sale on ebay- examples would be daria, friday the 13th the series, freddy's nightmares. If there is no released set you are buying recorded tv on a dvd.
6. Item stated to come with bonus rare games or movies- seller will list games or movies that you get free with buying some junk item. example would be a seller that has sold here over 70 sells dreamcast copied games by saying they are free bonus items and disc only.
things to look for when you bought it.
1. Lack of any artwork on disc. (some movies are double sided and just have a name in the inner circle those are real..but copies often are just blank dvds)
2. Dvd disc cover is like a sticker press on and can often even be pulled off.
3. Dvd artwork and disc cover are different than official version.
4. Dvd is a bad quality video wise-often movies are compressed to from dual layered dvds to single layered dvds the video suffers and is fairly easy to spot.
5. Dvd comes in sleave and not with original packaging
6. Dvd has a brand name on it (such as memorex, imation, dvd brand names)
7. Dvd artwork is uncentered and at times words are mispelled also widescreen dvd my have a fullscreen cover
Good luck people and please say this guide was helpful :-)
Hope this helps someone from getting copied mercendise. Be careful copy sellers may have really good feedback because not everyone knows how to spot fake movies/games, but there are always negatives from some users that noticed the fakes for the most part.
