I have been on Ebay for a bit of time. I am both a seller and buyer. I know there are problems on Ebay. There are problems because no one is doing anything about it and people are getting away with these scams. You can protect yourself by spotting things. I do not have much for you, but I do have enough for you to be worth your time to read.
Newbie Seller Scam:
- I have seen sales for around $1,000 US dollars
- It goes like this, SOME RANDOM THIEF WILL STEAL SOMONE'S ACCOUNT, THIEF LISTS AN EXPENSIVE ITEM, THIEF SELLS ITEM TO BUYER, THIEF AKA FAKE SELLER DOES NOT COME THROUGH WITH SHIPMENT, THIEF DRAWS MONEY FROM PAYPAL ACCOUNT, THIEF CLOSES DOWN EBAY AND PAYPAL ACCOUNT, NOW BUYER IS OUT THE CASH AND CAN NOT GET IT BACK!
- Here's how to spot something like this, always check a feedback record. Do not just check the numbers and the people leaving the feedback. See what the people actually bought. You should be suspicious if the majority of the listings are simply coupons. Thiefs need to build up their account by using other stolen accounts to build it. You are no dummy, you know how to click that mouse and check the sold listings.
- Always use Paypal and make sure you are protected when buying from a new seller. You can check how much you are covered as the buyer by looking down at the bottem of the screen/auction page. If you are bidding on an item for $1,000 and the listings protection is only $200, I would not bid. Why would you? That does not add up? It's simply not worth risk? Would you feel confortable risking losing $800 bucks? I sure would not!
Money Order Scam
- This is simple, the seller simply lists and item. They request you pay with a MoneyGram or a Western Union Money order!
- Problem is, neither of those items are protected by Ebay and surely not by Paypal
Shill Bidding Scam
- I highly recommend you bid only what you wish to Pay. Some buyers are compulsive and will put something even higher. They will tend to do this toward the end of the auction. Never pay more than you are willing to pay, that's why are you on Ebay in the first place.
Rolex Scam
- This is pretty simple, a seller will sell a Rolex that is fake by simply placing an authentic sticker on the back of one and replicating papers for it. They have turned a $5 dollar watch into a $2,000 watch. Make sure you buy Rolexes from respectable sellers with 10,000 feedback or higher.
Coin Scam
- Are you a coin collector? Probably are, most every is. Even homeless people collect coins, so you probably want to read this. Most beginner coin buyers and advanced ones know of PCGS, that is a numistic coin grading company. Here's the problem.
- Any seller can start getting greedy, they do and that's a fact.
- Here's how it goes! BUYER WANTS A GRADED COIN, SELLER SELLS THEM ONE, POSSIBLE PROBLEM IS THAT THE COIN COULD NOT BE ACTUALLY WHAT THE BUYER WANTED, SELLERS ARE KNOWN TO BREAK OPEN COIN HOLDERS, REPLACE IT WITH A POLISHED ONE AND SELL THEM FOR A PREMIUM PRICE. Some new buyers do not know any better because they are beginner coin collectors. It is only until after that 30-day Paypal limit that the buyer realizes he got a crap coin after he opens up his little coin book and realizes something is wrong....now it is too late to file....now you are out your money!
- How do you stop this? It's simple, know what you are buying, check your item when you receive it. If it's not what it is, contact the seller and allow 24-48 hours for a response, immediately if they do not respond, just file a Paypal Dispute, it's as simple as that!
Wholesale Bargain Lot Sellers List
- Seller will often try to sell you a wholesale list of sellers who sell things for dirt cheap
- What's wrong with this? It's not worth your money and it's simply a free link
- People pay 100's of dollars for things like this. You can not return digital auctions
- What can you do? Just don't buy things like that!
