Here are a couple of tips to spot fake Coach items:

1. Coach is picky on their quality.  If you see stitching that is uneven, handles that are two different lengths, etc, it isn't real.

2. Coach never puts their Signature C's on the outside AND the inside.  If it's Signature, then it will most likely have a solid fabric lining.  If it's a leather bag, it will have either a solid color or Sig C lining, etc.  Legacy's often have the striped multi colored lining.

3. Coach signature handbags and wallets always align in the center.  In other words, when you look at the front of the purse or wallet, the C's are centered and the pattern goes out toward the sides from there.

4. Coach never uses fake leather.  If someone is advertising a Coach as PVC or fake leather, it's not real.

5. Coach always uses real, solid Brass or Nickel hardware.  None of their hardware it hollow - this does make the bags heavier, but it's definitely worth it for the quality.

6. Coach always uses quality zippers, usually YKK

7. Beware of items that have handles, metal, etc, wrapped in plastic - typically, if the item was bought from an authorized dealer, this will not be there.

8. If someone is advertising a Coach as a "Factory Second" or a "Second", it's fake.  Even the Coach outlets maintain store-quality pieces.  Coach does not sell mess-ups!!!  If they do, they are deeply discounted and ONLY fount at the outlet.  Outlets are primarily for non-used returns to regular stores, overflow from regular stores, or Outlet exclusive styles.  Coach is constantly coming out with new styles and because of this, some are made to go straight to the outlets, such as variations on popular lines, etc.  They are just as quality as regular stores.

9. Patchwork styles are difficult to determine.  You really have to look at the quality of the rest of the bag to determine if they are fake sometimes.  If buying patchwork online, make sure you're buying from someone established and trustworthy.

10. The Coach serial number patch is a good indication as well.  Note that some handbags do not have a the patch in them, but if they do, they are ALWAYS stamped.  Some Legacy purses have printed serial patches, but before they are printed, they are stamped.

11. Markings on the serial patches - if there is a target-like circle or an "x" on the serial patch - it is real.  This is a marking that shows that it was bought at either an outlet or from an authorized dealer such as Marshall's or TJ Maxx.
