There are several ways to pick up on the people selling fake pottery.  I have learned to read feedback left to someone I suspect of dealing in fakes. You can take a look at what these people are selling piece by piece and if you see more than one of a rare piece or if the pieces are consistantly listed as being in perfect condition with no crazing and in new condition it probably is new. There are times when rare old pieces look very new, but not on a weekly basis from the same person. Also, read what is coming up for sale up to a week in advance and check this almost daily. After awhile you get to where you can look at what is for sale and get very close to knowing  who is offering the piece. I'm not immune to these fakes and have been fooled more than once, but I'm passing on to you the benefit of my errors. I have to admit that I did once come very close to accusing someone of selling a fake and was 100% wrong. It was actually a like new original piece. So, give a benefit of a doubt. But if you see it more than once be on guard. In Hull I have been seeing a lot of the Woodland pattern being offered in a matte finish and a glossy finish. Same thing applies to the Bowknot pattern. Just go thru the offers and you will see the same 4 or 5 pieces time and time again. In Roseville it is sometimes very difficult to tell from the photos and sometimes it isn't. Just be careful. I have many hundreds of dollars tied up in fake Roseville and thus far Ebay nor Paypal has been able to get my money back from any of these dealers. There are several sites on the net that now will list dealers caught selling fakes and you can get tons of helpful info from the message boards. Also, If you would care to email me I would be glad to pass on to you several sites that list information on fake pottery and those selling it.
