***NEW UPDATES ADDED BELOW!!

I am a MAC ADDICT!! My purpose for this guide is to inform those that are not sure in regards to some MAC items on eBay. I have seen so many sellers selling FAKE MAC makeups on eBay and it really bugs me. For the price that they are selling them for you might as well buy REAL ones. I understand sometimes people live in areas where there is no local MAC store or retail stores that carry MAC products such as at Macy's & Nordstrom. But another option is you can go online and buy online. MAC does have a online store. I highly recommend buying direct from retail so you know you are getting the authentic item and not wasting your money. Sometimes you can find good deals of MAC items on eBay also, but you really have to know your stuff. Do a little research. Go online and compare. Or go to the store to look at it if you are in doubt.

So this is a small how to spot FAKES. Mostly all sellers from China, Thailand and sometimes Canada will sell fakes but claim they are authentic. There are some sellers that slip through, selling from USA as well. Always check feedbacks. But this is not always guarantee either.

Brush sets are only sold as a 5 set as far as I know and they are only release during the Christmas season and are travel sets [meaning smaller than the normal size]. Sellers trying to sell them as 9 piece set or etc are RED FLAG....FAKE!

Examples below of FAKE MAC brushes:

This one below, the brush case is so fake and cheap looking.

No such case as below by MAC either.

Here are some FAKE MAC eyeshadow pallets some sellers are selling on eBay I found:

This one above, the box package is also a give away that it is FAKE as well as the sponge eye applicator. MAC does not have sponge eye applicator in their eyeshadow pallets [the pallet that does come with an applicator is always a small mini real brush 213SE meaning "special edition"].

Picture above: Same issue...also FAKE.

Here is a FAKE MAC eyeshadow lot that sellers are trying to sell that I found on eBay. BEWARE! Make sure you ask the seller what the eyeshadow names are. NOT "what you see is what you will get" which some sellers will say on their listing.

Here are some FAKE MAC lipglosses I came across on eBay. The MAC logo is always in BLACK. Never in white, like the picture below. Also, lipgloss always have a name not some number.

NEW UPDATE AS OF 8/7/2010.

So I went to a "make-up party" recently that someone I knew hosted. Low and behold, she had fake Mac products. She would not say they are fakes, which I think honestly she did not know any better. She is just trying to make some money since the distributor is giving her a percentage of the sale she makes. But for the price she was selling them for....for certain it had to be questioned, $30 for 3 eyeshadow when in fact they retail for $14 each. Sure it sounds like a good deal but would you rather have fake ones or real ones? It had me thinking, "possibly these fakes are passed off onto ebay to be sold as well." Anyone who doesn't know any better would be fooled. So I got pictures so that those interested can tell if they are getting the real deal or a fake. Of course I compared them with the real one and signs for you to look out for. (Sorry the pictures are not bigger, I thought they would be but upload is shrinks to this size in which when I extend them it blurs.)

The sticker labels are always Cap lock on REAL ones. Not like the fakes which is Cap for first letter and lower case font for the rest.

Real ones have engravings on them: HCT along with on the opposite side

REG. DESIGN

MAKE-UP ART COSMETICS LTD.

The fake ones have none.

The real ones have a smooth inner crack on the opening, whereas the fakes they have a dip hole.

The label on the back is also off. The real ones are written in gray font. The fakes are white font.

I hope this will help some of you. These are just what I have notice in comparision. I will update with more information when I do more research.
