How to Sell an eBook on eBay

Selling eBooks (or other digital items like software or video tutorials) on eBay can be a great way to make extra money. Here is a crash course on how to list a digital item and how to put your selling on autopilot.

Why sell Digital items?

Digital items such as eBooks and Software can be bought with resell rights for just a few dollars. This is perfect for someone just getting started. Spending a few dollars on eBooks that you can resell over and over again is ideal.

If you sold golf clubs, gift baskets or baseball cards you need somewhere to keep all that stock. Not to mention you would be running to the post office at least a few times a week. Digital items take up no physical space and are shipped digitally and automatically your customers.

All the products I sell are downloaded immediately after payment. It doesn’t matter if I am asleep at 3 o’clock. My customers do not have to wait for me to email them their purchase either, they can pay and be viewing or using the products within minutes.

Selling on Autopilot

In my opinion the best way to get your item to your customer is by simply giving them a download link after they have completed checkout The upside to doing this rather then emailing them the item in an attachment is huge both your customers and you.

The main attraction for your customer is that they can receive their purchase within seconds of completing payment. Also many people are fearful of viruses when opening attachments in emails and some people have trouble opening them.

For you this is much more convenient than emailing them the digital item. Setting it up so that your customers can instantly download their item takes just a few minutes, less once you do it a few times.

The first thing you have to do is upload your item on a file hosting site. There are many places that allow you upload for free. I use File Forge (F-Forge.com). You do not even need to create an account.  Simply go to the site, browse you files and folders to find what you would like to upload, give the download a name and WHAMMO your done.

You will receive a download link and a removal link. You can also password protect your download, though this is not necessary and can just add confusion.  I also suggest creating a word document that has all your links in one convenient spot.

Listing Your Item

To list your item click the ‘Sell’ tab at the top of eBay.

Select 'Browse for Categories'.

Not all eBay selling categories support digital items. I list my digital items under Everything Else > Information Products > Other.

Specify that you are selling a digital item.  Make sure you tell your customer the program requirements to view the digital item.  Example: This eBook is in PDF format and you will need Adobe to view it.

Copy and paste your download link in the box below.

I will leave choosing a title and the item description up to you.  Then you are done!

Note:  To avoid getting your item cancelled by eBay make sure you state somewhere in the item description that you are Resell rights holder to this item (only if you are) and that no copyright laws have been violated.

There is a quick guide to get started selling digital items on eBay.  I hope I have given you the info you need to start selling digital items and I wish you luck in all your eBay buying and selling.
