I always think that this is pretty common knowledge until I start to talk to people - then I'm usually somewhat surprised by the number of people that just don't know this!

If you are like me and love candles but almost hate burning them because you just hate trying to clean up old wax, then read this!  To remove old wax from just about anything, throw it in the freezer for a few minutes!  I pop all sorts of things into my freezer to remove the wax!  As wax freezes, it shrinks, making it easy to remove from tart burners, votive holders and even jars!  When doing this, you'll be tempted to use a butter knife to pry the wax out - but don't! You may break something (or worse yet cut yourself!) - if you find that the wax won't easily pop out, put it back in the freezer for a little longer until it does.  Sometimes, when I pour votives, I also use the freezer so that the candles will release easily from the votive molds after they have completely cooled - but you want to be careful because if you leave your votives in the freezer too long, they'll form white lines on them and, although they'll still burn properly, they won't be as pretty if you wanted to use them for gift giving or selling!

I like to pour candles and I refill jars for friends and family all the time!  If I'm trying to clean up a jar to refill, I don't use the freezer method because this may cause the jar to break.  In cases like these, I line an old cookie sheet with paper towels and put my oven on a very low setting.  Then I put the jars upside down and within a short time, the wax will melt right out of the jar and be absorbed by the paper towels! Viola! Clean jars! Then you can wash them up in warm soapy water and refill them!
