Have a klutz knock over a candle at your home leaving horrible brightly colored wax stains behind on the carpeting? Try this~ it worked for my daughter who was renting and faced not getting her deposit back.....Heat up your iron to the highest setting. Lay a sheet of paper toweling down over the wax. Place hot iron down ON PAPER not the carpet.  Wax will melt and be sucked up into paper towel. Repeat until every shred of wax is removed changing towels frequently. (If you think using boiling hot water is better~keep in mind that water can seriously damage a wooden subflooring.)
