Some Barbie dolls have pierced ears wearing earrings. Most original Barbie earrings are made of plastic or rubber, and they look like a long nail with a protruding triangle at the end so that once it is inserted into the earring hole, it will not easily come off. This is a safety prevention. It is very hard to pull the earring off by brute force, and you may crack the hole or break the earring if you try too hard.


My way of taking off an earring from the Barbie head is very simple. I pull out the shaft of the earring as much as possible, and then I wrap a bunch of food wrapping film around the earring to give a better hold of it. I then grab this tightly, but gently pull it outward while I rotate the earring (or you can just turn the doll head) until the earring comes off. The rotation helps to get the earring off. It also saves my fingers and finger nails. :) This method is particularly useful when that earring has dangling parts or beads that may break. The wrapper will help to protect such objects while you pull out the earring.

Some people would blow the head with a hair dryer or use hot water to make the head soft in order to deal with the earring. Yet as I said before, brute force won't help, so just remember treat everything gently.

In my experience, some older Barbie dolls may have shorter earrings and are therefore harder to take off. If they are not that expensive looking, just cut the plastic earrings with a pair of sharp scissors to save you the trouble. Or you may try removing the head before pushing out the earring from the inside. (Please refer to "How to remove Barbie head from the doll's body".)
