As many earlychildhood specialists, teachers and parents are aware of the research on reading to young children from the day they are born. Reading to young children not only helps to develop a special bond between parent and child, but also provides a format for your child's success in reading in the future.
as a child grows and learns, they assimilate information from various formats; one of which is from scanning books and being read to. They begin to associate the illustrations with the words being read to them. Children will find a specific book they love and request that book to be read to them over and over. This is important, because they are absorbing the information from the words you bring to the illustrations. After a time they will be able to look at the book and repeat almost every word page by page.
A child's success depends on those who read to them. Here are a few tips to keep them engaged.
1. Read with an animated voice. Give the charators life and personallity.
2. Ask open ended questions about the book. "What do you think will happen next?"
3. Give the child a turn at reading the book. Even at 3 years-of-age, the child will begin to mimic your way of reading the book.
4. Read everyday. Make it a retual before bed. These moments will be remembered by you and your child for years to come.
5. Reading to your child sets a generational presidence. They will pass these special moments on to their children.
