Here is how to securely pack a Antique or Vintage tube type radio. If this guide helps please vote for my guide, Thank You
1. First, you must secure the inside of the radio/ receiver. (For guide purposes will use the word radio but could be receiver amp or who knows, any old tube type.) That’s right, you must pack from the inside out! This may require opening the radio up, and removing the tubes Sometimes you can safely fill the inside of the radio with large bubble wrap, make sure you pack between the components, and tubes. On a old radio, transformers and other heavy parts can actually break loose during shipping, so it is very important to pack the inside of the radio tight so these items cannot break loose and destroy the radio.
2. Wrap the radio completely in a heavy mill plastic bag. This is to prevent scratching and tape from sticking to the radio and perhaps destroying the finish or decal art work.
3. Next wrap the radio in large bubble wrap, completely. If you can its always a good ideal to double bubble wrap over the face area.
4 Next pick out a double walled cardboard box, with at least 2 inches of room between the box and the radio. Many times do to size limitations it may be difficult to get more room then that, but this is the minimum.
5. Now comes the fun part. Use a 2" wide 4 by 8 foot sheet of foam insulation, available at most large home improvement businesses such as Home Depot. They runaround 20 dollars or less. (sometimes you can find a dented or damaged one and get it for much less) You need to completly surround your radio with this insulation, by cutting it to fit inside your box. In other words, as an example if the bottom of your box was 12 by 24, you would cut a sheet of the Styrofoam, 12 by 24 inches and sit in the bottom of the box. Cut another one for the top, same size. Then cut your sidepiece's. You must have a 2-inch minimum of this insulation or a lot of shippers will not pay if you happen to get damage during shipping.
6. For optional protection, you could put a tight fitting box around the radio this would fit between your bubble wrap and your insulation sheets. Another option, you could if practical, double the Styrofoam sheets to 4 inches.
7. Finally ship only UPS, FedEx or Priority Mail. If its over 200 dollars make sure you egt a signiture from the buyer.
Hope this helps you. If this guide is helpful to you, please vote for my guide, Thank You
