Hello fellow Ebay'er and welcome to my "How to pack 45 RPM records in a Priority Mail box" guide. As a long time record seller this method of packing has saved me money on boxes and I've never had a record get there broken.
You start with a number 1095 Priority Mail box, either the small [1095S] or large [1095L] will work.
The secret is that you keep the boxes flat, you don't open them and make them into boxes. First you have to prepare the boxes.
You start with the box flat, outside side down with the adhesive strip showing on top. The box have flaps on the side to make the box, you have to remove two of them. You see the two flaps on the sides that have a cut-out to fit the tabs on the lid? They each have two small pieces that fold in on the top and bottom. Tear off the bottom one from each side.
Now counting from the bottom up you will see that there are four pre-made folds going from left to right. You will be folding the first [lowest] and third one to make the "package."
Place the 45 [wrapped in newspaper and taped tight] in the middle, above the lower fold line. Fold in the two side flaps and then fold the lower flap over on top of them. You can tape this down to make it easier to work with. Now fold the top piece [the lid when used as a box] and stick it to the bottom flap. You can tear off the two tabs. You then tape everything together and you're done. If you want to make it even stronger them tape a piece of cardboard to the 45 first and place it with the corrugation going the opposite way of the box, which would be up and down, before doing the folding.
You can mail this just the way it is or stick it in a flat rate envelope.
