Rubber stamping is great for cardmaking, creating journals, scrapbooks, ornaments, jewelry and so much more!  Everyone probably knows that you ink and stamp a rubber stamp that is attached to a block of wood, but how on earth do you use a rubber stamp that doesn't have this block?  Unmounted stamps are readily available and here's how to get them ready to use.  One good thing to know is that unmounted rubber stamps are great as they are to stamp into hot glue and all types of clay.  They are flexible and deeply etched designs are extremely easy to use this way.  If you are looking to use your stamps on fabric, walls, shrink plastic or paper I recommend mounting them.  To mount, you need a piece of mounting foam.  The type that I prefer has one side that is backed with adhesive.  This is the side you would attach  your piece if rubber to and trim out the image.    Once trimmed, your stamp will have a nice 1/8 cushion and the backing will have a vinyl cling material on it.  This material will stick to an acrylic mount well enough to stamp with, but will also be able to be easily removed.  This way you can use the same mount for any other stamp as long as you have added the cling cushion.  Some people will skip the cushion and attach the image directly to the mount with double stick tape. You could probably get by stamping this way, but I think it is trickier and I've found that ink tends to get all over the place since the image is flat on the mount and not raised.  I hope this information helps and if you decide to go acrylic, I have acrylic mount sets and cling cushions available in my Some Things Fishy eBay store.
