There's nothing more inviting than enjoying a mug of warm mulled wine or apple cider on a chilly evening. These spiced bags can be used to mull hard cider, ale, Burgundy or Bordeaux wine or cranberry. Keep these bags on hand to attach to jugs of apple cider or wine for gift giving.
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 6 teaspoons whole cloves
- 6 teaspoons juniper berries
- 6 tablespoons grated orange peel
- 18 cardamom pods
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 3/4 cup blanched almonds
- In the center of a 6 inch piece of doubled cheesecloth, place 1 cinnamon stick, 1 teaspoon cloves, 1 teaspoon juniper berries, 3 cardamom pods, 1 tablespoon grated orange peel, 2 tablespoons cranberries and 2 tablespoons almonds.
- Gather up the edges of the cheesecloth and tie each square into a bag with kitchen string or twine.
- Tie the bags with a simple bow. Tuck a small sprig of holly or evergreen into the bows for gift giving.
- Makes 6 bags. Use 1 bag per gallon liquid.
- Directions: warm mulling liquid on low heat. Add spice bag and simmer gently.
