We've all tried to give a cat a pill and of course, we've all failed. The doctors and nurses say to hide it in their food.....Yaaaah right!!! I don't think they'd eat their pills stuffed in a cold, uncooked hot dog either!! Ha! How many times have we tried that on our pet and wasted food and pills!! LOL But, I have a great solution that not only works but, it's the ONLY thing that works! (in my opinion)
Please note: This works best if you have two people...one to hold the cat in the towel and one to give the cat the pill.
- First Boil two hot dogs
- Wrap your cat securely in a towel
- Tilt the cat's head back and pry open it's mouth and stick the pill way in the back of it's mouth/throat
- Close the cat's mouth...hold it closed!
- Now simply blow in his face/nose quickly and watch for the swallow....make sure the cat swallows before you release your hand from around his mouth. If it doesn't swallow, simply blow in it's face again. (I've never had to repeat this step...it always works the first time)
- Now, you can eat the hot dogs for lunch! You deserve it! :)
Important things to remember:
- Work in a team of two people to one cat, if at all possible. (can be done by one person though)
- Cat's teeth are sharp! Get your hand out of the cat's mouth quickly.
- Pilling devices can be used (plastic pill holding tubes that can be used to place the pill in the cat's mouth)
- If the pill is especially large in size: Break it into two pieces and just repeat steps 3 through 5 with the second half of the pill.
- A cat's mouth contains many bacteria....if you get bit, clean wound thoroughly and seek medical attention.
- It's best to have some hot dog buns, catsup and some mustard handy for your hot dog lunch. :)
