One of our most popular selling bikinis is the tan-through bikini. This is also a suit many people have questions about. The first question is usually, "Does it work?" Followed by,"Is it see-through?" The answer to both depends on several factors.

Tan-through suits are usually made of a patterned or illusion micro-mesh lycra. The mesh allows the sun to penetrate the suit, while the pattern disguises what the suit is covering up. If the material is too thick, or the mesh is too dense, it won't let the sun through very well. Also, the more simple a design, the more easily you can see what is underneath. So when shopping for a tan-through suit you want to look for a light weight mesh with a good all-over pattern.

Your base tan is also a big factor in how see-through the suit will initially be. If you have a deep tan all over and your other parts or glowing white, then they will of course show lighter under the suit until they catch up with the rest of your body. Those who already have a good solid color all over will rarely be able to tell the suit is see-through at all.

Tips on tanning in your suit:

1) If you don't want lines, then move the suit around a little while you tan, the same way you would move strings on a regular bikini. The edges of the suit are thicker, so the sun can't penetrate as well. I wore mine to the tanning bed and layed in the same position the whole time. When I got out and took the suit off, it looked like I was wearing an invisible bikini because all you could see was the outline!

2) Remember to use sunscreen on the parts covered by the suit if this is their first time being exposed. Although the suit provides some protection, you will still get burned. ouch...

3) Make sure you get the right fit. If the suit is too big, the tiny mesh holes won't have a good stretch and they will be too dense for a good tan.

4) Don't expect to be immediately tan all over. The suit does block some of the sun's rays, so the covered parts will be a lighter tan. You can give those parts some time to catch up by putting a higher sunscreen on your exposed parts.

After testing many tanning suits by other brands, we at Bombshell Bikini came up with our own simple design, made for easy wear and easy tanning. Each new pattern is personally tested and then the review is posted along with the suit.  Some of the patterns are very hard to tell they are micro-mesh and on some you can see something if you get very close-up and really look for something. And sometimes we pick a fabric that is way too sheer. Those will always have a warning about their sheerness on them! We keep the cost down by producing a simple, unlined suit in one style. Our tan-through bikinis are almost always listed on our eBay page, and we are happy to answer any questions you have.
