Shill bidder- a person who sells an item and creates another account to bid on their own item, bumping up the price
Tired of those shill bidders? I am too. I will tell you how to find a shill bidder & report them.
You can find a shill bidder with a few of these clues:
- The "bidder" (shill bidder) keeps bidding higher and higher even when they are winning the item. (ex. They raised it to $500.00 and then the next minute, they raised it to $600.00, and in the next hour they raised it to $1,000.00)
- They have 0 feedback and have been registered for a long time (If the person wins their own item on their new account, they won't leave feedback for them.
- Changed user ids
- The same address- you can find this if the shill bidder is selling any items. Bid a LOW price, and then you are able to get their contact information. Then, do the same with the seller, and see if the locations are CLOSE or EXACT. Sometimes, the shill bidders are the seller's friends, which is still breaking ebay rules.
Immediately report this to eBay.
