How to check for chips or flea bites on your antique, vintage glass pieces
Have you ever bought an expensive, vintage, antique glass piece only to find out later it's got a "chip" or a "Flea Bite" on the rim? Here, I"ll show you how to check for those very easily!
Ohhhhh... the disappointment of finding out you've just bought an antique piece with a chip on the rim. Here's how to check for those so you won't have anymore buyer's remorse.....
Simply run your finger gently and slowing over and around the edge/rim of the glass piece you are thinking of purchasing. (Sometimes, it even helps to close your eyes while you're doing it, for better concentration)
- Did you feel a less than smooth area?
- Did you feel a rougher spot?
- Was there a difference in the texture of the glass?
If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions than chances are you've found a "chip" or a "flea bite" Rethink your purchase or consider asking for a break in the price. (no pun intended..lol)
Definitions:
"Chip" = A small area where there is no glass
"Flea Bite" = The tiniest of chips in the glass. Sometimes they can't be seen with the naked eye.
