My husband and I are both wildlife enthusiasts and love history too. One day we decided to find a way to bring the things we love to our home where we could always enjoy them. We started with a mule deer head mount to decorate the living room wall. Then we found a gorgeous reproduction on canvas of the Grand Canyon at Yellowstone by Thomas Moran, a lifesize statue of a bald eagle, a few small realistic looking statues of a bear, buffalo, wolves, rabbits, squirrel, and turtle. We then collected several sets and pieces of deer antlers in which my husband measured and cut for kitchen cabinet handles, drilling holes into them and attaching them with sturdy screws to the cabinets. They turned out so beautiful and each one is different. We've gotten so many compliments. Then we purchased a wallpaper border with deer in the woods and ran it around above the cabinets. We have deerskins hanging on the wall in the hall and one bedroom. Also displayed on walls are medicine sheilds, bow and arrow,an arrangement of arrowheads and some very old pictures of indian ancestors. You can purchase antique or old photos on ebay if you don't have any, they have a great selection. My husband bought cedar posts, and made a coffee table and a bed. An ottoman out of a huge tree stump with deerskin(hair-on) covered cusion and lots of throw pillows in warm solid earth colors like brown, green, gold, purple, blue and red. Also an accent indian rug, ebay has many and the prices are reasonable. Some old pottery on the kitchen counter, and antique kitchen utensils. After putting all these things together, it was like walking into another time long long ago and being out in the woods at the same time. The effect has been astounding and everyone loves coming to our home. Primitive can be beautiful and fun, if you love the outdoors and wildlife, these ideas will bring it all into your home.
