You are supposed to teach others on the Bible but you aren't sure where to start.  Here's an easy guide to creating an effective Bible Study!

If you don't have a Bible passage already selected, go ahead an select one.  One suggestion: don't take on too much.  Just a few passages of Scripture can lead to a lot of discussion and study, so try to keep your selection to one story - one parable - or idea.  I would suggest no more than 15 passages within one Bible study.  If you are still stumped as to what to select, I would suggest choosing a parable from the Book of Matthew.  Parables are not always as simple as they seem.  Once we study them, we become amazed at what is being told and what we missed!

Now that you have your scripture chosen:

1. Find out if there are parallel versions of this story somewhere else in the Bible.  Most Bibles will have a section where they tell you have "parallel passages".  If Luke tells a story, it's very possible that Mark may have it also.  It's important to read the different perspectives of the account being told.

2. Find out if the passage is within your church confession.  For example, Lutherans should check to see if the passage is in the Book of Concord (the Lutheran understanding of Scripture bookofconcord-org).  Your own church may have opinions on this passage.

3. Ask yourself, "What is God doing in this passage?"  Then read the passage and answer that question.

4. Ask yourself, "How does this passage point to Christ"  The entire Scriptures point to Jesus as Savior, so in what way does this passage reflect or point to Christ?

5. Now that you have a few ideas, read what some other experts think.  You can go to textweek-com and look up your passage for commentaries and other ideas on how to teach your study.  Remember, your ideas are valued because you are teaching in your context, but it's also important to understand the experts, because they will usually hit upon a common theme that we should recognize in our study.

6. If you want to make life really easy and supercharge your Bible study you can purchase an entire Biblical library - with commentary - in Logos Bible Software at my eBay store!  stores.ebay.com/Lutheran-Online

7. Create a guide for the day.  My suggestion:
