Step 2: Get the essential accessories for your iPod.

From my own experience playing with almost all generations of iPods, you  need the following accessories in the order of importance:
#1:  A skin or leather case to carry it.
    For skin, you need to get a skin with lanyard chain and belt clip for the best convenience.
    For leather case, you need to get the case with built-in screen protector or flip cover.
    For skin or leather case, it will be the best if it is compatible with armband.

#2: Auto/AC/Battery charger for power needs.

#3: FM transmitter or tape adapter.
    For auto usage, you also need a holder to secure your iPod on the road.

#4: An armband for running or exercising.
