How to get started making aebleskiver.
When you are shopping for your first aebleskiver pan, you invaribly start to wonder what you should get. There are so many different types and makes.
First you should decide what stove top it will be used on? If you have a gas stove you can use any of the listed ones. If you are planning to use an electric stove with the flat top, there are two special pans made for them. Then how often or how much will you be using it? Will it be an occacional treat or will you have a regular group you like to please with a special dish? If you only plan on making them once in awhile, you can get by with the smaller ones. If you go to my site about aebleskiver you can see the different ones listed.
The number 1 and number 4 pan is the least expensive and the ones you will use little. If you plan on more often, you should think of the number 2, 5, 6 , 7 and 9. They will give you more capacity. The other ones number 3 and 8 are made for the flat top electric stoves. They can also be used on the gas stoves.
The number 7 and 9 are made in the USA. Most of the others are made overseas. To some people that makes a difference.
Cast iron pans need to be seasoned. Aluminum pans do not. The number 3, 7 and 8 need not be seasoned.
To make the work easier making aebleskiver, we have developed a ready mix for aebleskiver. You can also find it on my website. The most used jam for topping them has always been raspberry jam. We have that also on my site.
To turn the aebleskiver during the baking process use No 2 metal knitting needles. They work the best. You can find them at Walmart in the craft department.
This is about all the tips and help I can think of for you to start. The rest is up to you. Get yourself a pan and some mix and have fun with your family and friends.
